Day 6 - I'm Sorry, But That is Such a Shit Take. Do Better.

In my living room stands a stupidly oversized framed poster of Jeremy Corbyn. Obstinately clinging to vain hopes of what could have been, it is my slightly desperate, meagre attempt of showing that I am and always will be left wing. But as time goes by, I'm finding there are an increasing number of accompanying qualifiers and caveats attached when stating my allegiance. To some extent I've always thought the left can be its own worst enemy at times, pushing away our own by competitively shaming those who don't meet the required standards for membership of this intellectually elitist club. With a culture of inducing persistent anxiety for fear of saying the wrong thing or even for just asking questions, the left doesn't have the most alluring incentives to draw support. And now, just to make matters worse, a particularly annoying wave of condescending, superior and sarcastic millennials also dominate this space, injecting a new level of disparate division into the esoteric veins of this repellent alienation addict.

Being part of the middle-class millennial left myself, I can't help but think that if I find us annoying, imagine how the right, or more importantly the swing voters find us. Of course media bias is the main issue, not to mention Kier Starmer - the most impressively plain autocrat of all time. But we should at least be able to control our own behaviour. We're already on the backfoot, we could do without shooting ourselves in it.

The left has an undeniable class imbalance between the dominating middle-class within and the working class values it strives to represent, which is continually exploited advantageously by the right.  A visual representation of this divide can be experienced by heading down to any left-wing rally and attempting to stave off intrusive feelings of embarrassment whilst engulfed by an overpowering abundance of middle-class cringe. The blending of the middle-class left with the millennial lexicon has created an insufferable concoction. Or as they would put it - "cursed".

"Soooo, I'm sorry but I'm done. I am just, like, absolutely losing my shit right now ok????"

"I know right, I'm sorry but, it's like, literally really important to talk more. About like, boomers and I’m sorry, but, like, toxic... stuff."

"So important. Thank you for saying this."

"Thank you for hearing me. That is actually so important."

"So important."

"It's honestly so important."

"Like, really important."

"So important."

"And it's totally tone deaf right? We've got to protect each other at all costs."

“THIS.”

"I'm sorry but I won't apologise for growing as a person, shining and living my best life."

"I am so here for it. But like, I'm sorry but we are simply not talking enough about this actually, really problematic, like, trope. This culture. I'm sorry but it has to stop."

"And I guess that's just like, fine?"

"Sigh."

"These people aren't the enemy", "They shouldn't be the target", "There are bigger, more important things to be attacking", "I should channel my annoyance upwards not sideways", blah blah blah blah blah blah... They are the enemy!!!!!! They are a parasite destroying us from within, ostracising ordinary people and just generally making us look and sound like a right bunch of pricks. Also I do complain about bigger things as well. It's possible to do both.

For my own peace of mind, here is a hypocritically condescending paragraph to make my stance abundantly clear so that I'm not misinterpreted (as at the moment people love misinterpreting things and choosing to immediately implode) - I am generally not against the socio-political values of the above type of person. I'm usually largely in agreement. But maybe if we can be a little less annoying and just act and talk like normal people, we might have a better chance of winning other normal people round. I could be wrong. Maybe nobody listens to each other regardless - there's definitely a strong chance of that, especially with the media bias in favour of the right. But still, there’s no harm being less irritating.

And if you still don't agree, then... wow I have no words. That is such a shit take. You're part of the problem. Do better. Do a lot of reading and educate yourself. I actually cannot handle this. This is not normal. OK boomer, the fact you don't even know is genuinely actually so revealing, you're obviously a closed-minded, toxic, problematic, tone-def, triggering, cursed, mansplaining, dinosaur, bigot. I actually feel suffocated. I literally cannot even breathe. I’m done. I actually have to leave, Byeeeeeee.
